The Cheltenham Secondary College Basketball Academy is aimed at providing an integrated academic pathway driven by young students’ sporting aspirations. It allows young students to enhance and develop their sporting talent while concurrently receiving their secondary education.
It is crucial to the Cheltenham Secondary College Basketball Academy that students' academic pursuits are of the highest priority and that each students' interest and aspiration in sport assists them in achieving high results both academically and within the sports academy.
This course is not only creating pathways for professional athletes, together we are creating individual pathways for basketballers, coaches, occupational therapist, physiotherapists, psychologists, nutritionists and many more.
In 2018, the Basketball Academy will be offered to both girls and boys. It will be divided into two sections – Years 7 and 8 and Years 9, 10 and 11 students. Both age groups will have expert coaching from outside coaches who have extensive experience in coaching and playing both here and overseas. One of our coaches played four years at Oregon University and therefore has extensive experience in what it takes to get to the top.
This program will be over and above the normal day to day schedule for a student and therefore classes will not be interrupted. The only interruption to classes will be any tournaments that students will participate in.
Applications for the Basketball Academy are open to both internal and external students. If you are interested in being involved in the Basketball Academy, please contact the school on +613 9555 5955.
