Senior School
As students transition to Senior School, they quickly notice the increased academic rigour of VCE and the many competing elements of school, work and life balance; as they are attending more social events, have greater independence and for many students part-time work commitments. Each student is supported in their learning to develop life skills that support their studies while enhancing their emotional, physical and social awareness.
Every year our students achieve outstanding VCE results. Selecting from over 35 VCE subjects offered, students are encouraged to select subjects of interest during their VCE studies, along with participating in a variety of co-curricular activities to ensure students remain engaged, focused, and really thrive and enjoy their final years of secondary school.
Senior students may also nominate for our small, supportive Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) program. The VCAL has four curriculum areas, called strands. These strands are:
- Literacy and numeracy skills
- Industry specific skills
- Work related skills
- Personal development skills.
Each VCAL unit contains accredited learning outcomes that must be satisfactorily completed in order to meet the requirements of that unit.
In 2023, for Year 11 students, VCAL will now be known as VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM). 2022 Year 11 students will complete their Intermediate VCAL studies in 2023, but will be awarded the VCE VM qualification at the end of Year 12.
At Cheltenham Secondary College, students are supported to continue to develop the required skills to be self-reliant and manage what is a busy time for many senior students balancing their studies, assessment schedules, social interests, and other commitments.
Students graduate from Cheltenham Secondary College equipped for the challenges of life and the attributes to make positive contributions as members of the wider community.
