The Cheltenham Secondary College Netball Academy is aimed at providing an integrated academic pathway driven by young students’ sporting aspirations. It allows young students to enhance and develop their sporting talent while concurrently receiving their secondary education.
It is crucial to the Cheltenham Secondary College Netball Academy that students' academic pursuits are of the highest priority and that each students' interest and aspiration in sport assists them in achieving high results both academically and within the sports academy.
This course is not only creating pathways for professional athletes, together we are creating individual pathways for netballers, coaches, occupational therapist, physiotherapists, psychologists, nutritionists and many more.
In 2018, the Netball Academy will be divided into two sections – Year 7 and 8 students and Year 9, 10 and 11 students. Both age groups will be trained by the Netfit Team who have a range of high profile Netball figures. These high profile people include: Robynn Pym (who has extensive coaching experience with the VNL, academy squads, state and regional teams) and Sarah Wall (an Australian Netballer who has played for New South Wales Swifts, Queensland Firebirds, Melbourne Vixens and most recently this season with The Giants).
This program will be over and above the normal day to day schedule for a student and therefore classes will not be interrupted. The only interruption to classes will be any tournaments that students will participate in. In 2017, most of the tournaments ran during the school holidays, on weekends and during the evening.
Applications for the Netball Academy are open to both internal and external students. If you are interested in being involved in the Netball Academy, please contact the school on +613 9555 5955.
